Some of us are great at managing our over active mouths and some are not. Just thinking of waking up on January 1, 2010 ( that's if I can wake up if I'm hung over ! ) and to see I've gained 10+ more pounds from the last month and a half of eating is well not so pleasing to think about.
So what is one to do? Starve to death? Go on a diet? Yeah right ! We all know that diets don't work or they are just plain too hard to stick to. Let's be proactive ! Here's a plan to help you enjoy the holidays of food and drink; and not gain those extra pounds.
Plan ahead. Okay....if you are not a planner or hate calenders; well you need to get use to it if you want to keep the pounds off. Just get yourself a simple calender starting with December 2009 though the end of 2010.
I'm assuming you have a basic knowledge of sound good nutrition? If not, here's a fast and brief summary of good nutrition.
* If man made it and it comes packaged; DON'T EAT IT !
* Try to eat organic and whole foods.
* Stay away from processed and artificial made foods. They are junk to the body.
* Drink pure water and stay away from sodas, and all sugary drinks. *Yes, it's okay to indulge on the adult beverages. But drink responsibly.
And there are numerous resources on good nutrition. Please consult your local nutritionist or naturopath.
Now that you have your calender; let's begin!
Now say let's begin with December; being that Thanksgiving has passed. The next big holiday for stuffing our faces is Christmas and New Year's Eve.
So having calender in hand. Take a highlighter and high light Christmas and New Year's Eve. And also highlight any special events or holiday parties that you are attending.
For the days that are highlighted; take note on some good tips for keeping the appetite in control.
Start your day with a hearty , protein dense breakfast. So for example some eggs with whole wheat toast and some fruit. Add a little yogurt in there and perhaps some oatmeal. Oatmeal is great for fiber and keeping oneself with a full feeling and the eggs are a great source of protein.
Be sure to drink plenty of water during the day and leading up to the party. During the day you'd want to have nutritious mini-meals every 2 hours. On average you'll have about 4 mini meals in an 8 hour period.
Your mini meals should consist of a protein, fiber and source of energy. Try to stay away from high colorie junk foods.
And if you have the opportunity to work out before your party. Do it. Working out helps boost your metabolism and burn calories.
It's party time ! Oh man, all the food looks so good! And the egg nog; I can have a gallon of the stuff ! Whoa! Slow down. As you are browsing the food extravanganza, look for foods that are high in fiber. Start out with these first as they will fill you up first. Then you'll have a less likely chance of gorging yourself on the junk, high calorie foods. Sure, it's okay to have some of the junkie foods. But try not to have an entire meal of junk foods like mini hot dogs, tater tot hot dish.
On your off days or days that you are not having party food. Always start out with a big breakfast and mini meals throughout the day. Plus with the added bonus of working out; you'll be burning calories!
A few good resources and tools to keep the pounds off are; try replacing a meal with a shake of some sort. I get my meal replacement shakes from Cal Nutrasciences. Yhey have this great shake called 'Lean'. And even better CNI has a program that fits very easily into the daily routine called Core 4. Check it out at www.allcore4.com .
And I've found that using pure 'Citrus Fresh' essential oil from Young Living Essential Oils in my drinking water does wonders for my body. The Citrus oils such as lemon is great in water as it alkalizes the human body. Plus it flushes out all the unwanted toxins that we just dumped into our bodies.
So where can I get the Core 4 and Citrus Fresh? Check out Core 4 at www.allcore4.com and for the Citrus Fresh, go to www.my-oils.com.
