I'm always amused when I walk into a local coffee shop and see dozens of individuals sitting at tables for two and four, with their laptops. I wonder -- are they on FaceBook, IMing with their best friend (that is actually sitting right behind them, yet they don't even realize it).
I recently experienced a similar situation, when I was at Dunn Bros on Lake Street, working on the 2009 expos for MediaMAX, when I got a call from a very good friend, asking me if I wanted to get together for coffee. I said, "Sure!" She said, "I'm going to be at Dunns Bros on Lake Street in a minute or two. Where are you?"
Well, there we were. Meeting, Live and Local.
These "social" networking sites (FaceBook, MeetUp, LinkedIn) are fine for casual connections, but let's not forget about the power and value of LIVE events. Real people meeting live and in person.
